I bought this receiver based on reviews for the previous model (STR-DH540). That model shows that it's is discontinued and I wanted a receiver with the same features and maybe a little more. I figured the slight difference in the model and features would be ok. This is to replace an older Sony that I've had since 1999 or so and was finally pooping out. I also wanted to upgrade to all HDMI connections as my older Sony had only optical and analog connections. This is also in place of a Yamaha (RX-V467) receiver that I had in the bedroom but decided to move out to the living room. The STRDH550 is now in the bedroom and WOW, what a difference! All the little sound details I was missing with the Yamaha are totally apparent with the Sony. Setup was a breeze after hooking up all my speakers (Polk Audio) and other equipment (PS3, Comcast cable box, Samsung Blu-Ray). I just hooked up the included mike and let the Sony do it's thing. Sound and video from all sources is crisp and clear and very organic. The Yamaha also has the same feature, but does not yield the same results at all. I don't want to totally knock the Yamaha, but after listening to the Sony it's like comparing apples to oranges.Overall, I totally recommend this product. More on this review later after I've had more fun playing with it. - Customer Reviews
