Overall, this is a receiver packed with useful features. I have had one major problem, though I tried to research it before buying. We have a projector that can accommodate up to 1080i component and my older Onkyo TX-NR-901 (c. 2004) also had component capability that could also display composite and since other devices, such as DVD players and cable boxes also can down convert a higher quality signal, I assumed that since the TX-NR-737 has a component output it could also down convert. When I discovered that I got no signal through the component output when my inputs were all HDMI, I called Onkyo who said that the receiver does not down convert HDMI signals, though it is clear that it up converts lower quality signals. My bad, but since I had not bought a receiver in 10 years, I did not realize that current receivers do not down convert HDMI. Possibly I might try to get an HDMI-component converter but there apparently are caveats about HDCP copy protection protocols. Alternately, use my component switch and use component signals until I can afford an HDMI TV or projector. Otherwise, it seems like a great sounding, feature-packed receiver. I wish (and asked Onkyo) that Onkyo would be explicit in its product information and manuals that their receivers do not down convert HDMI to other signals. - Customer Reviews
